This year in 2020, Valentine’s Day falls beautifully on a Friday, perfect timing for a romantic weekend away. To put it bluntly, I love where I am from and think everybody should visit and so here is why I think County Clare is the perfect romantic getaway this Valentine’s day.

  1. Where to stay?

In County Clare you have a wide variety of accommodation types. From the budget-friendly, yet often overlooked Rowan Tree Hostel, to luxury 5-star hotels such as Dromoland Castle. However, when I think of Valentines Day, I think of a romantic cottage, like the ones you see in movies like PS I Love you. Think of it, a cute, cosy bottle of wine, an open fire and yes, we have lots of these cottages in Clare!

  1. Where to Visit?

County Clare has it all – The green green countryside, the wild wild Atlantic Way coast and let’s not forget the Burren! With so many towns and villages to explore you might find it difficult to decide where to go. Ennis is the capital town of Clare and is a great place to begin your romantic getaway. With its thriving Irish traditional music culture, 50+ pubs and oh yes, did I mention Ennis is the Fashion Boutique capital of Ireland for both men and women? (Shopping Spree hint hint)

Next, I would highly recommend you take the scenic route to Ballyvaughan roughly 40 minutes from Ennis. A 40-minute drive might not sound very romantic but trust me, as you wind through Burren taking in the breathtaking surroundings, your other half will feel like they are starring in Leap Year.

Afterwards, another quick spin down the road will bring you to the Cliffs of Moher. My advice, plan your day to arrive here at sunset. If the Burren wasn’t romantic enough, I promise you, this will exceed all expectations.

  1. What to do?

So hopefully, those who have read this far have come to a realisation that this just has to happen. Valentine’s Day in County Clare is just meant to be. You know where to stay and you know where to visit but is there something that could make your visit that bit extra special? Absolutely!

Here are my Top 3 ideas to make your Valentine’s Weekend in County Clare memorable:

  1. Best of Ennis Walking Tour: Arriving into Ennis, let a local show you around and laugh your way through the narrow laneways & bow ways of Ireland’s Friendliest Town.
  2. Magic Mayan Chocolate Making: A private 3-hour chocolate making workshop with the owner if Magic Mayan chocolate. A fun experience that brings out the best in people. As it’s Valentines weekend, personally I think chocolate would fit in beautifully. a group of people posing for a photo
  3. Spa Day: County Clare has multiple spa options available, but my personal favourite would be the outdoor hot seaweed baths overlooking the Atlantic. Soak all your worries away with your loved one and take in the beautiful nature that surrounds you.Seaweed baths beside the ocean
