Just when you think Ennis cannot get any nicer… crust me, it does. Introducing the Instagram bread sensation that is Sourdo’ Farrell.
Keith O’Farrell, a proud local Ennis man, returned home from travelling in early 2020 when the pandemic hit Ireland. As his previous jobs in Ireland revolved around international students visiting Ennis, he was out of work and had to think on his feet to come up with a new way to earn his living.
Stuck at home during lockdown 1, Keith began making sourdough bread. First as a cool hobby but then began selling it to friends and family via Instagram. Keith became very popular. He would make fresh loaves of sourdough bread in the early morning and then deliver them himself on the back of his bicycle. He loved his job and everybody loved his bread. Win Win!
Keith gained a passion for all things sourdough and started getting creative. From focaccia to cardamom rolls and sourdough brownies, Keith was gaining popularity among the locals quickly.
‘Mmmmm… Yes Please!’
Keith’s found that his home bakery wasn’t big enough for his newfound demand. He ceased operations in early December 2020 and began to put a plan together for a proper bakery Ennis people would love and be proud of. A bakery that only existed in Keith’s imagination for years but now, he was going to make it happen.
He found the perfect location in a historic Ennis building, often known as “Quinn’s Shop” where he promised to do the building proud. His sourdough bakery will offer a wide variety of freshly baked good such as sweet treats, delicious Anam coffee from the Burren and of course, sourdough bread.
